Synopsis:
In the aftermath of World War II, Hungarian-Jewish architect László Tóth and his wife Erzsébet flee Europe in 1947 to rebuild their lives in America. Settling in Pennsylvania, László's visionary designs catch the eye of wealthy industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren, who commissions him to design a community center. As László navigates the complexities of postwar America, he confronts personal and professional challenges, including betrayal, addiction, and discrimination. His tumultuous journey culminates in a retrospective at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 1980, reflecting on themes of suffering, memory, and the American Dream.
